Well I think I have to start with "Why a blog?"
Here I really have to thank our friend Heather Moore.
I absolutley love to read her blog (www.skinnylaminx.com).
It made me look differently at the things around me and
it gave me the longing to also share what
catches my eye, gives me inspiration, moves my heart...

And "Why Vogelki...''
The title is all about the Dutch word ''vogel'', that means bird!
Vogelki is a little wink to the Afrikaans word ''vogeltjie''. It is
how we in Dutch would write how you pronounce the word in
Afrikaans.
Birds have been a consistent, recurring motif for me lately...
It started with just fantazising about having a little lunchroom
caled ''Vogel''. The place was gonna have birds all over. On the
plates, cups, napkins, birds songs in the background; on the menu,
birdseedcookies, all sorts of eggs - scrambled, potched, baked,
boiled...sandwiches and salads with whichever bird grabs your fancy
(chicken, turkey, duck etc.) And besides that all sort of gadgets
with birds; earings, teatowels, bags, books...
I really was a bit disappointed to find out that there already exists
a sort of place like that in Cape Town, called ''Bird's Boutique Cafe".
We especially went there and I have to say that I liked it a lot,
but I still think we can do it differently. So who knows?!

But since then I have been into birds!
My Love, Greg bought me this beautiful book filled with all the birds
of South Africa. Inspired on what I find in the book and on what I
see daily in our garden here in Durban, I started to draw... birds!!
I cut them out of paper, I cut them out of sand blasted vinyl and stick
them on our windows (sometimes just for the day cos Greg is not
always happy with them :) He did use one of my motifs for a laser
profile steel plate detail!
So that's why Vogelki.
