Dumbwaiter

The day that we found this orphan (that's how it felt for me when we bought him),
Greg said; ''so now we have a Dumbwaiter''. A little silent helper who will hold your drinks next to the couch, or will take care of your keys, sunglasses etc. at the front door...
I actually was a bit shocked by the name and the fact that they seem to be very well known as that. In the meanwhile I have seen them here in Durban a lot; in all different sizes, or actually different ages, from young to old! Today I decided that I wanted to know more about this phenomenon and I tried to google ''Dumbwaiter''. The only things that came up for ''The Dumb Waiter'' were 1. a one-act play by Harold Pinter -a play I happen to know very well and 2. an elavator that moves between two floors! It feels as if it really is too politically incorrect to use this word for an obviously black figure being used as a side table, but I suppose that today it just blatantly reveals the overthrows of a colonial history... Greg decided that he wants to make a whole lot of dumbwaiters with the face of president Zuma and let him try to carry all the corruption in this beautiful country!
