Omima
I was five years old when my great-grandmother (Omima) died, but my head is still full with memories of her. These hair-bands that I'm making remind me of her all the time. My great-grandfather left her straight after the 2 WW. He had been hiding from the Germans in a deep cupboard during the war and my Granny and her Mom took care of him, but when he came out of the cupboard he left them for another woman!
My great-grandmother was left behind with nothing and to make some money she started to sow hairbands made out of ribbon, felt and elastic. She would go along to different shops and sell them. They would last forever. My sisters and I wore them when we were little and I still have some at home in Amsterdam...
This is a little broach I made. It is for my friend Anna cos it reminds me of her :)
